OnePlus 6T Review

OnePlus 6T just launched and almost all the reviews you can read and watch online are very positive.

And boy do they deserve it!

OnePlus 6T offers some huge upgrades from its older brother the OnePlus 6 which launched just 6 months ago.

Yes, the company OnePlus is known for launching 2 smartphones every year and I do not mind if they continue doing it.

It still has the same Oxygen OS installed over the top of Android which provides a very close to stock android experience.

The user experience is very snappy and very smooth when you are navigating through the phone.

Even gaming is very responsive and shows great performance even on graphically demanding games.

Here is my take on the OnePlus 6T review.

1. What’s New

One of the biggest changes in the OnePlus 6T from the OnePlus 6 is the tear-drop top notch.

This smaller top notch now increase the screen-to-body ratio of OnePlus 6T to 86%.

It is still not as high as some of its competitors in the market. But still an improvement nonetheless.

You still have the option to hide the top notch if you want to.

The second and probably the best feature update on OnePlus 6T is the in-screen fingerprint scanner.

This now allows its users to unlock their phones while it is lying on top of a table or any surface. Without the need for you to pick your phone up just to unlock it.

This feature will become very useful to people who usually do other stuff while using their phone like cooking, studying, doing stuff on a computer etc.

There are also three animation effects for the in-screen fingerprint scanner for your to choose from.

They are namely Cosmos, Wave and Stripe.

2. Display

The display of the OnePlus 6T is now bigger with 6.41″ Optic AMOLED display. The resolution is still 2340 x 1080 with 402 pixels per inch.

The screen display is also very colorful and attractive to look at. It is still not as smooth as some of its competitors but this does not seem to bother its avid users at all.

It also has built in color profiles which you can choose from.

They are namely Default, sRGB, DCI-P3, Adaptive Model and Custom.

The most commonly used ones are sRGB and DCI-P3 but we welcome the other options nonetheless.

3. Battery

The OnePlus 6T also has an awesome upgrade for its battery. It now has 3700mAh which is a huge upgrade from the already great 3300mAh of the OnePlus 6.

This now allows its users to last all day without needing to charge their OnePlus 6T in the middle of the day.

Even for heavy users the phone still lasts for over 6 hours of heavy usage.

Even if you manage to drain your battery within 6 hours though. There is really no issue at all as the OnePlus 6T supports fast-charging.

This means your phone will be fully charge immediately after an hour of charging.

4. Goodbye Headphone Jack

Sadly, in order to upgrade the battery size. OnePlus 6T has to sacrifice its headphone jack.

The new in-screen fingerprint scanner hardware is also rumored to contribute to the decision of removing the headphone jack.

These two upgrades just took too much space.

Honestly what I think happened is this. When they included the in-screen fingerprint scanner hardware. The space left is not enough for the headphone jack.

Now they have this space which the headphone jack doesn’t fit so what will they do with that space. Just bump up the size of the battery.

The reason why I came with this is because the battery upgrade just doesn’t make any sense. The OnePlus 6 battery is already considered great.

Now the company OnePlus includes a USB-C adapter on every box of the OnePlus 6T. Which is very much appreciated.

They also announced that the Bullets V2 headphones will come with a USB-C connector.

5. Camera

The OnePlus 6T still uses the same camera hardware as its older brother the OnePlus 6.

It has a dual main camera. The primary camera is a 16 MP with f/1.7 aperture and phase detect auto focus plus optical image stabilization.

The secondary camera is a 20 MP with f/1.7 aperture and phase detect auto focus.

The quality of the images improved slightly with each software updates as the company OnePlus is slowly learning how to fully utilize their camera features.

They also now included a night mode feature in the OnePlus 6T which allows you to shoot in dark places effectively.

6. Specifications

The OnePlus 6T now starts with 128GB storage and 6GB of RAM as its lowest specifications.

You can upgrade it up to 256GB of storage and up to 8GB of RAM.

It still uses the same SnapDragon 845 chipset which provides you with very snappy experience when using the OnePlus 6T.

The OnePlus 6T also still uses the Corning Gorilla Glass so you can rest assure that your screen will not be easily scratched.

7. Price

The most attractive thing about the company OnePlus is their competitive pricing.

With all these upgrades on the OnePlus 6T they still price it the same as the OnePlus 6 which starts at $549.

I really admire the company OnePlus because of this and I hope they remain the same even with all the success and attention they are currently getting.

Conclusion

Overall I think the OnePlus 6T is the best bang for a buck phone out there.

I highly recommend buying it if you are currently in the market for a new phone.

It is not very expensive but the specifications and performance is almost on par with the most expensive smartphones currently in the market.

There is a reason why almost all the reviews about it is positive and I think they truly deserve it.
